We asked popular beauty and fashion blogger, Chelle from Cosmetic Journey, to share with our readers some of her essential beauty tips for women. Here’s what she had to say:

Chelle: There are many different tips and tricks to keeping yourself looking fresh and beautiful every day. Here are some of the steps I always make sure to include in my routine no matter how busy, rushed or tired I may be.

  1. Taking care of yourself physically and mentally is important to your overall health which leads to internal as well as external beauty. The most basic steps to guarantee health and vibrance are the ones we tend to always hear about. Make sure that your daily routine consists of balanced and nutritious meals, plenty of water and exercise and a good amount of sleep.
  2. Washing your face in the morning and before bed prevents the buildup of dirt, oil and bacteria from dulling your skin and causing possible breakouts.
  3. Make sure to exfoliate once or twice per week. It’s an instant skin brightener that removes dead skin cells and gives you a deeper clean while leaving your face feeling fresh and soft. This is an important step in your skin care regimen if you wear makeup since your freshly exfoliated face provides a smooth surface for application of cosmetics.
  4. Moisturizing your skin is always at the top of my list when giving beauty advice. Every time you wash your face, follow up with a moisturizer that fits the needs of your skin. Use separate products for around the eye area as well as the rest of your face. The skin around your eyes is very delicate and requires a lotion or cream specifically for that area. If you use anti-aging creams, save them for bedtime as your skin is already in regeneration mode while you sleep. When it comes to cosmetics, moisturizing prior to application is a must as dry skin will make your makeup look streaky and flaky.
  5. My daily facial moisturizer always contains an SPF. This is important all year long to help prevent and protect against future skin damage. We all will end up with wrinkles one day, but you will have less of them later if you wear your SPF now. Just avoid it under your eyes as it can tend to be drying.
  6. Always blend your makeup. Nothing looks worse than harsh lines of foundation or eyeshadow. Every product I apply I blend until it appears seamless. This includes foundation, bronzer, eyeshadow and eyeliner.
  7. If you have problems with dryness, crows feet or fine lines under and around the eyes, skip powder in this area as it will only make the skin look more dry. I prefer to only apply foundation and concealer under the bottom inner half of the eye to avoid the products accentuating the lines.
  8. Remove your makeup before you go to bed no matter how tired you are! Your pores will be gasping for air and your mascara coated lashes can easily break.
