“Star Wars: Episode VII” has cast Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave”) and Gwendoline Christie (“Game of Thrones”) in undisclosed roles. “I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of ‘Episode VII,'” Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement on starwars.com. “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”

Nyong’o and Christie add a female touch to a cast that has been criticized for its predominately male makeup.

The pair join an already impressive cast including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO).

Other recent casting announcements are Oscar Isaac, John Boyega Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.

“Star Wars: Episode VII” is slated to arrive in theaters December 18, 2015.
