The tower was originally built for the 1889 Exposition. This steel construction defied all traditional rules in architecture. Today the tower is the main television transmitter for the city of Paris.

The tower design was selected by a competition in which Gustave Eiffel won. Eiffel was an engineer who had lots of experience constructing high level railway viaducts. In the public eye, the tower had many mixed opinions, celebrated and loathed in equal measure. Throughout its construction, the residents became convinced that it would collapse, and Eiffel had to reassure them many times quite often in person. Continue Reading…

Trip to Thailand

Thailand is a tropical country which in plain English means that it’s pretty hot, sees quite a bit rain and well it’s pretty green. It’s total population is around 61.5 million!!! They clearly need to take lessons with regards to increasing population exponentially which isn’t that difficult, all they need to do is breed like south Asians …errrr….I mean rabbits.
I am not sure about their literacy rate but unlike population competition, this time they must have beaten us as it’s mandatory for every child to go to School up till the age of 16. Education was completely free up till 1992, after which due to some economic downturns government asked people to buy uniforms/books on their own.

And well they do have a taste for showing off, why else a country would like to keep something as redundant as monarchy? And spend all the hard earned money on keeping kings and queens fit and all that. So yes Thailand is actually Kingdom of Thailand and not just that, they worship the King too as I have been informed that in Buddhism Kings come immediately after God. If you will ever be found guilty of insulting the King then you can be jailed for two years eg. if one good Friday you happened to find a 100 bhat note below your feet then you might be naive enough to think that it’s free money and certainly something good but trust me it’s not as note has King’s picture !

Non-state actors are trying to disintegrate Pakistan and institutions are being pitted against each other, President Asif Ali Zardari said on Sunday, and vowed to make every sacrifice possible to protect democracy.

Addressing a gathering to mark the second death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto, Zardari said, “If anyone casts an evil eye on democracy, we will gouge out their eyes, Pakistan will thwart conspiracies against the four provinces and the federation, tussle between institutions will weaken the country. Citing Iraq and Afghanistan as examples said, “We know what happens when institutions are weakened … but we are not that weak … don’t think we are weak, or we cannot fight, do not consider our tolerance our weakness. We know how to fight, but a tussle between institutions will weaken Pakistan. You know what happened in Afghanistan and Iraq. The people of Pakistan will not let their country turn into Iraq, Afghanistan or Somalia,” he said.

Honestly…. I am sure none of you actually believed with any level of confidence at any point through the last six days that this Pakistani “herd” is good for anything. I am sorry but I can’t use the word “Team” as it is reserved and defined by multiple dictionaries for a group of people working towards a common goal. A good team is said to be one where the whole of the team is greater than the sum of its parts. Need I say more? This is as close as any time the Aussies allow opponents to come close to beating them at their home grounds … those who dare, plan and have finesse… do it…
